The navigation device is a kind of mini computer which contains a GPS satellite navigation receiver. This allows the device to determine its current position. At least 4 satellites need to be received in order to be able to perform acceptable navigation. The fifth satellite is required to obtain an altitude. As navigation takes place in a dynamic state, there is scarcely any constant quality of reception, and this can therefore vary constantly from in some cases 5 up to 12 satellites.
The maps which are displayed on the screen are located directly on the navigation device (Flash ROM) or on an external memory card. The navigation software ensures that your current position appears on a map. An additional TMC (Traffic Mode Channel) receiver allows traffic reports to be processed.
